The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.</p></div><p data-pm-slice="1 1 []">The Chassis team provides the foundational infrastructure and tools that enable the Waymo organization to release software frequently and with confidence. You will lead the technical direction and implementation of a city-scale simulation environment that serves as the centerpiece for Waymo's release validation process. As a Senior Staff Tech Lead Engineer, you will architect solutions for large-scale simulated environments, drive the migration to modern testing frameworks, and ensure cross-functional alignment to expand test coverage to include complex systems. You will mentor a team of engineers to deliver a reliable, repeatable, and realistic testing environment that mirrors production and shifts outage detection left. </p>

<p><strong>You will:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Help build and evolve mission-critical horizontal infrastructure and tooling that underpins all commercialization systems</li>
<li>Collaborate with other engineering teams to develop systems and processes as business needs grow and evolve</li>
<li>Scale our systems to meet the demands of commercial expansion and growing complexity</li>
<li>Solve hard, real-world problems such as world simulation for regression testing and evaluation of software services managing fleets for autonomous vehicles</li>

<p><strong>You have:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience </li>
<li>6+ years of backend or infrastructure experience </li>
<li>5+ years of tech leadership experience </li>
<li>Proven track record of driving strategic alignment and consensus across complex, cross-functional organizations </li>
</ul>

<p><strong>We prefer:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Experience with C++ (or a willingness to participate in professional development activities to stay current on industry knowledge) </li>
<li>Experience working in environments including nontechnical team members </li>
<li>Experience with operations tooling, developer productivity, or developer tools </li>
<li>Experience with simulation environments </li>
